Quality management is one of the healthiest practices that enterprises  across the different industries, try to follow these days. Companies engage in this practice in order to ensure that all their efforts meet a consistent level of excellence. To be precise, quality management involves the processes of overseeing all the tasks and activities that are needed to maintain the excellence thoroughly.

Basically, the process of Total Quality Management revolves around three broad categories, as quality planning and assurance, quality control and quality improvement. The system of quality management includes different processes which are pivotal to the growth and management of an organization.

The process of quality management also addresses the maintenance of quality from different angles.  The techniques of quality management include –

• Establishing sound hiring and training practices

• Creating detailed problem-solving plans

• Designing the company’s service or product carefully

• Maintaining effective processes to create the product or service consistently

• Using different charts and checklists to follow the scheduled processes

• Overcoming the obstacles

• Reviewing and revising all the processes

Undoubtedly, quality management should be and is an integral part of most organizations. While it’s true that safeguarding the quality of services or products is not an easy task, especially in a restricted economic climate, however companies must take every possible initiative to ensure the same. While in 2015, regulatory compliance was a major pain point for the quality managers, in 2016, they might expect the emerging technology trends to influence the quality management systems to a great extent. To the benefit of all, most of the new technology trends like cloud computing, data analytics and Omni-channel approaches are going to streamline the quality activities and make the global supply chains less fragmented.

Let’s take a look at what are the probable major quality management trends of 2016 and how these are going to impact the different practices of quality management –

How the Omni-channel communications will impact quality management?

The Omni-channel communications are enabled by the ubiquity of the different mobile technologies. Basically, these give the stakeholders absolute flexibility across the supply chain. These also ensure system access and instant communications from any preferred location, reducing the data loss and chances of error. Hence, it should be kept in mind that the Omni-channel communications will surely help improve the quality agenda in 2016. This will be possible as more and more mobile innovations will come on stream.

The cloud: How is it going to improve the quality management?

By now, the cloud has been recognized as a mainstream asset by most companies, irrespective of the industries that they belong to. In fact, it’s considered as an integral part of the enterprise quality ecosystems. Sharing the crucial information in real time and perfect synchronization are definitely a critical part of all the enterprises and this is where cloud helps a lot. This is mainly because cloud ensures ease of system integration or process visibility across the supply chain. The cloud based quality management platforms will surely help improve the quality of the different products and services that the organizations have to offer. They also ensure that the sophisticated conventional QMS platforms of the past, earlier available only to the enterprises, are now also available to SMBs in an affordable SaaS model.

How quality management is linked to Internet of things (IoT)?

IoT refers to the process of integrating the remote sensors, devices and machines into an interconnected network through the web. This surely has the potential of ensuring significant cost and time effectiveness. However, technically, from the perspective of quality management, this helps eliminate the most obvious human errors, which usually creep in with the suboptimal processes and systems. According to the industry experts, IoT has extremely high potential to transform the process of manufacturing. Hence seamless & better integration at various data points now validates the quality of data being generated for analysis, increasing the overall reliability on various work processes.

Data and analytics: What key role it has to play in quality management?

Talking about quality management, Big Data is such a phenomenon that we have to think about. In fact, it’s important to recognize that these two trends are inextricably linked with each other. From the perspective of a quality manager professional, Big Data and IoT play an important role in terms of optimizing processes and people. With the help of these advanced technologies, the task of the quality management professionals would become way easier as they get access to accurate data, based on which they can finalize their strategies and act according to those. With a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the big data, the quality managers will be able to respond to the entire process more effectively.
