Google announced launching of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) institute for research, fostering research and development work on interaction between people and artificial intelligence like speech, written language and gesture for more effective and efficient interactions.

In partnership with the US National Science Foundation (NSF), The National AI Research Institute for Human-AI Interaction and Collaboration has been formed, where Google will provide $5 million as funding for supporting the institute.

Google said in a statement, “We will also offer AI expertise, research collaborations, and Cloud support for Institute researchers and educators as they advance knowledge and progress in the field of AI.”

The institute will develop research tools and techniques adhering to the humanistic principles like social benefit, inclusive design, safety and robustness, privacy, and topnotch scientific excellence.

Google said, “Research projects will engage a diverse set of experts, educate the next generation and promote workforce development, and broaden participation from underrepresented groups and institutions across the country.”

The outcomes of the research will get published from time to time for advancing knowledge and progress in the field.

For several years, Google is working in this field.
